Tasting Notes

92
Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Jan 16
The 2012 Laforge is another gorgeous wine from Jonathan Maltus. Nuanced and delineated in the glass, with superb mid-palate intensity, the 2012 is impeccable from start to finish. Sweet plum, cherry pit, slate and smoke open up in the glass. The 2012 is wonderfully energetic and centered, and offers lovely poise and balance. Readers can drink the 2012 now or cellar it for another decade, perhaps longer. Hints of mocha, sweet French oak and spices add a modern, racy sheen to the finish. The 2012 is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc blended across the three main terroirs found in Saint-Emilion.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
